At just 1 hour from Bordeaux, visiting Cognac is an easy day trip from Bordeaux.
Did you know?
On one side of the coin are the major houses of Cognac like the famous Hennessy, Remy Martin, Martell, and Courvoisier. Just 15 houses represent 96% of worldwide sales of Cognac, and 4 of these alone represent 80%. However, these Cognac houses own no more than 5% of Cognac's vineyards and distilleries.
On the other side of the coin are the 4000 wine growers and distillers of Cognac who own 95% of the vineyards. A few of them market their Cognac independently and these represent less than 4% of the Cognac market. However, that is where treasures can be found: Cognacs over 40 years old, with a real personality and very well ranked in blind tastings...
But how do you visit these Cognac producers?
Let us take you to the real Cognac country, meeting passionate people who have been running their family owned estate for generations. They are vine growers, distillers, suppliers of major Cognac houses, and direct sellers of their own production at the same time.
