Private shore excursion: Marseille & Cassis
Your private tour guide for the day will meet you in Marseille at 9am by the exit of your cruise ship. Climb aboard your upmarket 8-seater minivan and set off in comfort to explore the must-see sights near Marseille.
Your excursion starts with a drive along the coastal Gineste and Crests roads which lead you to the outstanding site of Cape Canaille. From here you will appreciate an exceptional view of the Bay of Cassis and the Gardiole mountain range.
After your drive you will arrive in the fishing village of Cassis. Your guide will take you to see the ancient fishing port and the harbour which are the most beautiful parts of the village. You will have the opportunity to enjoy a 45-minute boat trip (ticket not included) to discover 3 Calanques, steep-walled coves with tiny harbours and beaches.
There will be free time for lunch (not included) on your own during the day.
After Cassis its time for a tour of Marseille! Your guide will drive you back to the city for a panoramic tour of its best sites! Stopping at Notre-Dame de la Garde basilica you will enjoy a breathtaking view on the Phocaean city, the Archipelago of Friuli and the Château d'If. Next your guide will drive you along the Corniche Road, a symbol of holiday and outward sign of wealth for merchants and bourgeois in the 19th century. Admire the magnificent houses they built with their many ostentatious and splendid features. Your tour of Marseille will continue on to the 11th century Saint-Victor abbey that marks the entry to the Vieux-Port (Old Port).
Your private guide is an expert in Provence and will be ready to answer all your questions on Marseille and Cassis throughout the course of your shore excursion.
At the end of the tour you will arrive back at the Marseille cruise terminal for 4pm.
